Homework Policy
Homework will be assigned from Monday-Friday. It is due the next day. Students are expected to read for 15-20 minutes, complete a math worksheet, and complete a literacy sheet. The homework is a review of something we are learning in school that week. If you find that your child has difficulty with a particular assignment, please send me a note so that I can help him/her. Please take the time every evening to sit down and look over your child’s homework.
Homework Suggestions for Parents 1. Help schedule a time to do homework, showing that it is an important priority and that you value its worth. 2. If possible, provide a quiet corner for your child to work. It should be well lit and contain materials for your child to work with. 3. Let your child work on his/her own but, let him/her know you are available for help. 4. Be available to check your child’s work if needed, both that it is correct and complete. 5. Remember that nothing can help like a hug, a smile, or a few words of approval. Be encouraging and supportive. |
Expectations
I set high expectations for my students and expect them to show the respect I give to them.
In our classroom, students are expected to: * Follow all classroom rules * Be safe, respectful, and responsible * Raise your hand before speaking * Use a quiet voice when in the classroom * Show kindness towards others * Help a friend * Keep hands and feet to own body * Actively participate in lessons |
Behavior
Our school uses (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support) and we expect students to be SAFE, RESPONSIBLE, and RESPECTFUL at all times. The students follow a color chart to monitor their behavior:
Purple
"Awesome Work!"
Pink
"Great Job!"
Green
SAFE, RESPONSIBLE, RESPECTFUL
"Ready to learn"
Students start here each day and if they demonstrate positive behavioral choices, they will can remain here throughout the day or move up to Pink or Purple if they are behaving exceptionally well contsistently.
Yellow
"Warning"
This serves as a gentle reminder to follow the classroom rules and change their behavior.
Blue
"Think Sheet/ Teacher Choice"
Students move to this color when they have not changed their behavior from their warning. They might need to fill out a "Think Sheet" about how their behavior is affecting others.
Red
"Parent Contact"
Students on red are asked to reflect on their behavior, the choices made, and how they affected others. Parents will be contacted or a note will be sent home explaining their behavior.
Rewards and Consequences
*Everyday your child will come home with their “Star Chart” taped on their folder. Their star will be colored with the color they were on that day for their behavior. Please read and sign the chart daily.

Rewards and Consequences
- Class System – Warm Fuzzy Jar. When the entire class is doing an outstanding job, a handful of warm fuzzies (cotton balls) will be added to the jar. When the jar is full, the class will be rewarded with a special treat (extra recess, theme day, movie, etc.)
- Color Chart- Every day students start on “Green: read to learn”. Throughout the day they can move up or down the color ladder, dependent on their behavior. Students can move their clip up to “pink” or “purple” when showing good behavior. Students receive a warning when making poor choices at school and this could result in contacting parents if their behavior is not changed.
- Individual System - Class Dojo/Blue Tickets. Students can earn a point on class dojo and blue tickets for following the rules at school. Students can also earn points based on which color they are on at the end of the day. (Green= 1 point, Pink= 2 points, Purple= 3 points. Tickets are collected and placed into a bi-weekly school-wide raffle. At the end of the week, students earn tickets for the number of points they have on Class Dojo. During the year, we will move to handing out tickets to the “Top 3” students with the most points.
